PETIQUETTE

At Dog Friendly KW, we are strong advocates for responsible dog ownership. Heading out to a dog-friendly location? Don’t forget your petiquette!

Ask for permission

Want to say hi to another dog in the space? Make sure you check with the other owner first! We encourage you to ask for consent before letting your dog enter another pup’s space.

potty break!

Even if your dog just went, ensure they don’t need to relieve themselves to ensure no accidents happen in public, indoor spaces!

Be prepared

Pack a small bag or backpack with your dog’s essentials. This may include water, a water bowl, poop bags, treats, and a blanket to keep them comfortable.

respect service dogs

Respect the space of service dogs, and do not interfere with working and in-training dogs.

stay in tune

It’s easy to get distracted when visiting new places, but don’t lose touch with your dog! Stay tuned to what they’re doing and how they’re feeling to ensure success.

keep your pup on leash

Unless a winery has a designated off-leash area, please keep your dog on a leash at all times. We discourage the use of retractable leashes and recommend a leash that is 6 ft long or less.

take a break

Sometimes, your dog might get overwhelmed in a public space, and that’s okay. Take a break. Walk away. Hit reset.

have fun!

Enjoying public spaces with your dog is an incredible bonding experience - enjoy it!

assess readiness

Not all dogs are ready to visit a busy, dog friendly place. Take baby steps and make sure your dog is ready to be in a stimulating environment.
